Natali, the Capital (
Summary[]
Natali, the capital city with a population of about three million, is a prosperous coastal hub focused on the Magic industry. Its major tourist attractions include Main Street and the Mantinel Witches Association. Currently, Desscaras has brought Ichi to Main Street, where he is amazed by the busy street shops and the large crowds. Desscaras explains that Natali is the biggest city in the region. Ichi is also fascinated by how women use magic so casually, finding it incredible. Desscaras clarifies that this isn't something he would see in rural areas and that women don’t automatically know how to use magic—they need formal training first.
This leads to Desscaras explaining the Mantinel Witches Association's structure. The association includes three groups: Witches, who are highly trained magic specialists deployed to hunt Majiks; Senior Witch Cadets, who assist the witches and work in various fields like magic research and the production of magical items; and Junior Witch Cadets, who have passed the aptitude test and are qualified to learn magic at the association's school, the Mantinel Magic Academy for Girls.
In contrast, most men in Natali can’t use magic at all, nor can they use magical items. Average women may have some magical potential, but they can barely use magic themselves, although they can operate magical items. Most of the women working in Natali went through the Witches Association and now use magic in various jobs—whether in labor, craftsmanship, or other fields.
There are also witch dolls, Who's-who books about witches, and plenty of other witch merchandise since witches are popular and a great source of tourist income. One specific book even focuses on Desscaras and her life. Proud of this, Desscaras boasts that people are eager to capture the beauty of the real thing—herself. However, Ichi wasn’t paying attention. Instead, he was mesmerized by a pair of boots at a magic shop, which made Desscaras angry since he wasn’t listening to her.
The boots Ichi was interested in were magical, and the shop owner found it unusual that a man would be drawn to magic items. She explained that the boots are leg-boosters, designed to enhance someone’s strength when a little magic power is poured into them. With the average woman’s strength, the boots could help one jump about six feet in the air. Ichi excitedly said he wanted to try them on, but the shop owner dismissed him, saying that on him, they’d just be a pair of frilly knee-highs because magic items are made for women only.
Meanwhile, some people in the crowd were discussing a rumor about a male witch that had appeared somewhere. Most dismissed the idea, believing it was impossible for men to be witches. Ichi almost revealed that he was that male witch they're talking about, but Desscaras quickly covered his mouth as she joined the conversation. She then warned him that his ability to use magic is a secret, and if anyone found out, she’d be in trouble. Ichi understood, and as she continued reprimanding him not to draw attention, a letter labeled “top secret” suddenly fell from the sky.
The letter came from an air route harbor, where Witch Cadets use a levitation spell to carry mail from the harbor to the Witches Association. While everyone, including Desscaras, was focused on the floating loads from the harbor, Ichi came up with an idea. He glanced back at the magic boots he had been eyeing earlier. As Desscaras remained distracted, Ichi left a small knife as collateral and wrote a note saying he would be borrowing the boots for now. When the shop owner realized the boots were missing, it was too late— Ichi had already jumped incredibly high into the sky, shocking everyone nearby, including a very nervous Desscaras. Using the leg-boosting magic from the boots, Ichi soared through the air, jumping from rooftop to rooftop above Main Street establishments. Some of the people below watching him as if he were flying while others don't believe.
Kumugi, a Witch Cadet from the Mantinel Witches Association, was exhausted as she transported a heavy load from the air route harbor on her old elevating bike. The bike had a cart attached where she placed all the items, most of which were strange things her master had bought for experiments. She was frustrated, feeling like it was too much for her to handle in one trip, and wondered if it was just her luck. Her day had been stressful from the start: a bird's awful screech woke her up at 5 a.m., her favorite mug developed cracks that spelled "death," and her daily prophecy warned her to "watch her back," which all seemed like bad omens. As she continued to grumble about being stuck with delivery duty and how slow and old the bike was—having broken down more than once—she heard someone calling out to her from behind. Kumugi, lost in her complaints and wishing she could expense a new bike to the department, ignored the voice at first. When she finally turned around, she was shocked to see Ichi landing in the cart with the letter she had dropped from the harbor. The sight left her speechless, as she screamed in surprise. Before she could process what was happening, Desscaras, who had finally caught up to Ichi, knocked her out and carried both Ichi and the now-unconscious Kumugi away.
While riding in the sky on Kumugi's magical bike, Desscaras scolded Ichi for his reckless behavior, frustrated that he always ignored her warnings. Ichi tried to justify his actions by pointing out that he didn’t technically use magic. However, Desscaras reminded him that she had specifically told him not to attract attention. Ichi apologized, but Desscaras, still annoyed, retorted that if saying sorry were enough, there wouldn’t be a need for police. She also mentioned that, at the very least, they managed to get hold of the one witness—Kumugi, who was still unconscious. Desscaras grumbled about making Ichi write a formal apology for his actions. At that moment, Uroro chimed in, mockingly repeating Desscaras' earlier statement: “If sorry was good enough, we wouldn’t need police,” which only made Desscaras angrier. As the tense silence stretched on, Ichi suddenly looked at Desscaras with excitement in his eyes and exclaimed, "Magic is fun!" Ichi excitedly mentioned that he felt he could catch a bird from up there. He also joked that if he stomped on the surface of a river with the magic boots, he might knock out all the fish. Desscaras fell silent for a moment before replying dryly that she should just dump Ichi in the ocean, to which Uroro in the back, wholeheartedly agreed.
Just then, Ichi noticed black smoke coming from the bike, and it started slowing down. Before they knew it, they were falling fast, crashing straight through a gate. They were welcomed by Monegold, who was visibly annoyed by their chaotic entrance. She told Desscaras that while she had asked her to bring Ichi, crashing through the gate wasn’t part of the deal. Desscaras, unfazed, simply smiled and said, "I'm home." With others are also scattered around the area with Ichi already trying to get up and Kumugi still unconscious, Monegold, still unimpressed, told Desscaras she could start by writing a formal apology for the mess they just made.
