Shirabedonna, the Analytic Witch ( (ふん) (せき) の魔 (じょ) シラベドンナ Bunseki no Majo Shirabedonna) is the fifth chapter of the Japanese manga series Ichi the Witch, written by Osamu Nishi and illustrated by Shiro Usazaki.

Summary[]

When Desscaras and Ichi arrive at the Witch Association, they are greeted by a Mirage. Desscaras tells the Mirage her registered which is "everyone's favorite uber-talented badass Desscaras," which leaves Ichi stunned. The Mirage confirms her identity, and they are granted permission to enter through "Mirage Passage." Inside, Ichi is amazed by the high ceilings and stone floors. He tries to chip off a piece of the floor while asking endless questions about the place. Desscaras calls him a "bumpkin" and tells him to behave, warning him not to draw attention or cause trouble.

While they bicker, the floor suddenly wobbles, and a woman emerges, feet first, from the ground. She shouts "Sachikila!" and immediately starts assessing Ichi, noting his height (5'5"), weight (132 lbs), and body fat (11%). She also comments on how sturdy, healthy, and flexible he is, despite being male. She's amazed that Ichi has magical power and insists on staring at him, even asking him to strip so she can examine him more closely. This causes her subordinates to panic and ask her to calm down. One of her assistants asks Ichi for a strand of his hair, trying to calm the excited woman as they pass it to someone else. The group lines up to introduce themselves, welcoming Desscaras and Ichi. They explain they are the Society for Research into Magic and Witches, also known as the Witches' Research Club. Ichi recognizes one of them, Kumugi, whom he had helped earlier when she dropped a letter. She thanks him and gives him an entry permit. Monegold then hands down an official notice stating that approaching Ichi without permission is strictly forbidden, which explains why the area was empty when they arrived. The excited woman, who greeted them earlier, is Shirabedonna, the Analytic Witch. Kumugi explains that Shirabedonna lost her composure because she is thrilled to study Ichi, the only male witch in existence.

In the Majiks Registration Chamber, Ichi stands in the center, staring at the mirror on the ceiling, momentarily distracted. Shirabedonna asks him to use the Raiko Majik he acquired earlier. Desscaras reminds him that the chant for Raiko Majik is stored in its Magic Stone. Since Ichi now possesses that Majik, he can read the word engraved on the stone—Raiko's true name. Guiding him, Desscaras tells Ichi to draw his knife, take a stance, imagine slicing a target in front of him, and then swing his arm while chanting Raiko's true name. Ichi follows her instructions, and as he does, the aura of the Raiko Majik surrounds him. He chants its name, "Inazuri," which means "lightning claw," and unleashes an explosion that he redirects upwards. The Research Club witches watching are amazed that a man like Ichi can actually use magic. At the same time, Ichi feels as though he's swinging a massive scythe, finding it a bit hard to control.

As Shirabedonna steps closer to Ichi, she notes that he seems to rely on instinct. His magic power level is similar to that of an average woman, and he shows no signs of traditional stances or forms. However, he activates the spell without hesitation. Though he’s a novice, Shirabedonna recognizes Ichi’s experience as a hunter. She reassures him that as long as he doesn’t trigger Uroro, using magic won’t leave him unconscious for three days. While Raiko's effect isn’t meant to cause a massive explosion, Shirabedonna finds it strange that Ichi hit the ceiling instead of the target, suspecting it wasn’t a simple miss but rather an intentional aim. When Ichi explains that it's a habit to react this way when sensing a powerful, hostile presence, he reveals that to him, the ceiling isn’t just a ceiling; he wonders what lies beyond the mirror.

Shirabedonna, intrigued, explains that on the other side of the mirror he struck, the witches of the association are observing him, judging whether he poses a danger. Ichi has demonstrated his ability to use magic without hesitation, which puts the witches in a position to decide if he can be a weapon or if he is a potential threat. Their internal balances are on edge, ready to tip either way. For this reason, she strongly advises Ichi to address Uroro, who is currently behind him, causing a panic among the Research Club team at the sight of Uroro. Uroro tries to warn Ichi about the witches, explaining that they observe him from a "fish tank" platform, looking for any reason to eliminate him. He urges Ichi not to trust them and suggests they go witch hunting instead of hunting Majiks. Ichi simply replies, “Interesting,” with a straight face.
