Minakata (ミナカタ Minakata) is a traveling fisher whom Ichi met years ago on Druid Mountain and who also became Ichi's survival teacher.
Appearance[]
Minakata is a muscular man with long, dark messy hair reaching his waist. He seems to always wear a deer skull as a mask, covering most of his face.
Personality[]
Minakata seems to be a carefree person with more of eccentric personalty that Ichi even calls "weird... but also wild and full of life".
Even though Mintaka is a skilled survivalist, he is able to properly share his knowledge with the young Ichi.
Plot[]
Background[]
Minakata explains that he comes from a small island county to the east. His purpose is to travel around the world to catch and record various types of fish.
One day, he wanted to try filleting a fish from the inside, but he was worried about being embarrassed to be caught. Therefore he went to the Druid Mountain, hoping for more privacy but there he encountered Ichi. Afterwards, the two got to know each other, and Minakata started teaching Ichi various survival techniques and cooking recipes.

Ichi recalls how Minakata teached him about a special dish, where he shows his respect and gratitude to the fish he catches by dressing them neatly, then displaying them beautifully. Ichi then decides to use this dressing technique on Uruwashi and he passes her trial.

The relationship between Minakata and Ichi seems to be that of a teacher and student or perhaps even a father and son. Minakata shared his knowledge and stories with Ichi, while also playing and taking care of him.
Ichi seems to greatly treasure and honor the memories he spent with Minakata, as Minakata was likely the first adult to care for him after his abandonment. The lessons he taught Ichi were what allowed him to survive in the wild for so long.

- Survival Skills: Minakata has a wide range of knowledge, including: survival skills, living in the wild, preparing dishes, identifying and gathering safe edible plants, and discerning between harmful and safe mushrooms. He also seems to be proficient in using various tools, mostly fishing-related, such as knives for proper filleting. Additionally, Minakata is able to analyze and record every fish he catches.
